HEMSA: Higher Education Marketers of San Antonio
MISSION
HEMSA, Higher Education Marketers of San Antonio, is committed to providing the marketers of San Antonio’s higher education institutions with world class marketing expertise and access to resources in order to showcase San Antonio as a premiere location for higher education.
HISTORY
HEMSA was founded in early 2010 as a Special Interest Group (SIG) of the San Antonio American Marketing Association (SA-AMA.) Though there are several national organizations dedicated to higher education marketing, the Higher Ed SIG, later named HEMSA, was formed by several of SA-AMA’s visionary members.
San Antonio and the surrounding area lacked a local or regional organization devoted specifically to higher education marketing and with over 31 higher education institutions in San Antonio, the need was evident. Therefore, after several months of planning, the group held its first event on Wednesday, September 22, 2010.
HEMSA’s Pre-Launch and Networking Social united over 50 higher education marketers and those who serve the industry creating the city’s first-ever networking social for higher education marketers. In addition, HEMSA secured guest speaker, Joaquin Castro (Texas State Representative and Vice Chair of the Higher Education Committee) who spoke to the group about the importance of promoting higher education in San Antonio.
GOALS
HEMSA is dedicated to fulfilling the following goals: 1) Provide networking and professional development opportunities to the higher education marketers in San Antonio and the surrounding community.
2) Develop a curriculum for higher education marketers which consists of workshops, webinars, conferences, etc.
3) Unite the higher education marketers in San Antonio in effort to promote the city as a premier location for higher education.
